Stone Art

Carving stone into sculptures has been practiced for thousands of years. At Slippers n’ Things you will find a large collection of detailed art work created by the indigenous people of Labrador.  There are a number of artist who’s work is showcased at Slippers n’ Things such as John Terriak, Levi Semigak and Lydia Tuglavina.

Dale Ford is one of our exclusive artists he was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. When he was ten years old, his family moved back to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador.  Dale started carving as a hobby when he was 21 (May 2000); as with so many others, he learned the art by watching other carvers in the neighborhood.  Five years later, he quit his career as a butcher and went full-time into carving.  Like his brother, Manuel, he worked mostly in serpentine, at first with hand tools and then moving on up to the more efficient power tools.  Dale’s serpentine and antler drumdancers, hunters, bears and parka-hooded busts are in demand.
